PROJECT

The objective of this project was to propose an alternative design for the community centre of the Malibran neighbourhood. The site was situated in the middle of a block and had a very particular shape. The first step in the design process was thus to work on the rationalisation of the available space and to create volumes respecting the proportions of the surrounding existing buildings and linking the different parts of the block. Then, it was decided to dedicate the two first floors of the buildings to the public facilities. In order to open them as much as possible, there façades were entirely glazed. The different functions were then connected thanks to an inner courtyard, directly accessible from the streets, that favours meetings and interactions. In opposition to the public facilities, the flats and studios were placed in the upper floors providing more privacy. Their façades were more closed and equipped with vertical aluminium slats allowing to avoid direct views with the neighbours. In addition, the slats gave character to the ensemble that should be easily identifiable as a place of gathering in the neighbourhood.
